Is it Harmless Fun?

Many people talk about Halloween nowadays. I visited three toastmasters clubs last week; two of them spoke about it as a the main theme for the meeting. When I commented that according to the guidelines of Toastmasters Internationals the meeting should not speak about a religious topic like this, many replied that Halloween is just about fun and has nothing to do with religion! A 10-year student at an Islamic school was inquiring that at her school they are working on artwork related to Halloween so how come it is haram? Some people commented that it is just about fun and kids being wandering around collecting candy! Why making things difficult! It is harmless fun for kids!

My question: Is it harmless fun!

I invite everyone to research the topic. In a snapshot, Halloween is a pagan festival that began some 2000 years ago and it has to do with devils and the God of Death! Its rituals and symbols are about pleasing the devilish souls! So, undoubtedly it is a religious festival that cannot be looked at as a harmless fun!! It is so obvious! Therefore, the wise person will want stay away from it and keep the children informed about it explaining to them why they need to abstain from participating in such occasion.

We need to be proud of our identity that we need to guard. Maintaining our identity as Muslims by following our religion would be a priority of high importance to us especially in this era. Please contemplate over this story; When the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam came to Madinah, he found the people accustomed to celebrate specific days during which they relax and play. The prophet peace be upon him didn't look at the matter lightly and he didn't consider it a matter of mere relaxing and playing. He enlightened the people that every nation has its own festival, and Allah has given us two days (Eid-ul-Fitr, and Eid-ul-Adha) to be our festivals. Also, he told us that when a person act in a way resembling others, he will become one of them! So, it is about our identity and about our religion!

So, do you think after this that participating in such festival is harmless to our identity as Muslims? harmless to our relationship with our Lord Subhanahu Wataa'ala?

The Superiority of the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah

The Superiority of the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah

By Shaykh ibn al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy on him

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. May peace and blessings be upon the Chief of the Messengers, Muhammad.

Indeed it is a great favour and blessing from Allah that He has made for His righteous servants periods of time within which they can increase in good deeds to attain great rewards and one of these opportunistic periods is the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah (the final month of the Islamic Calendar, in which the hajj is performed).

SUPERIORITY OF THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF DHUL-HIJJAH

The excellence of these ten days have been mentioned in the Qur'ân and the Sunnah.

1. Allah says in the Qur'ân:

"By the dawn and by the ten nights … " [Al-Qur'ân 89:1-2]

Ibn Kathîr said that "the ten nights" referred to here are the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, and this opinion was also held by Ibn Abbâs, Ibn az-Zubair, Mujâhid and others.

2. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

"There are no deeds as excellent as those done in these ten days." They (the companions listening) said, "Not even Jihâd?" He, peace be upon him, said, "No, not even Jihâd except a man who goes forth endangering his life and wealth and does not return with anything." [Recorded by al-Imâm al-Bukhârî]

3. Allah says:

" … and remember the name of Allah in the appointed days." [Al-Qur'ân 2:203]

Ibn Abbâs and Ibn Kathîr said this means in the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

4. The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, said:

"There are no other days that are as great as these in the sight of Allah, the Most Sublime. Nor are there any deeds more beloved to Allah then those that are done in these ten days. So increase in tahlîl (to say lâ illaha illallah), takbîr (to say allahu akbar) and tahmîd (to say alhumdulillâh)." [Reported by at-Tabarânî in al-Mu'jum al-Kabîr]

5. With regards to the noble companion Saîd bin Jubair, when the days of Dhul-Hijjah began he would strive to increase in good actions with great intensity until he was unable to increase anymore. [Reported by ad-Dârimî]

6. Ibn Hajar says in Fath al-Bârî:

"The most apparent reason for the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah being distinguished in excellence is due to the assembly of the greatest acts of worship in this period, i.e. salawât (prayers), siyâm (fasting), sadaqah (charity) and the hajj (pilgrimage). In no other periods do these great deeds combine."

WHAT ARE THE RECOMMENDED ACTS IN THESE DAYS?

1. The Prayer - It is highly recommended to perform the obligatory acts at their prescribed times (as early as possible) and to increase oneself in the voluntary acts, for indeed, this is what brings a person closer to their Lord. The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, said:

"Upon you is to increase in your prostration to Allah, for verily you do not prostrate to Allah with even one prostration, except that He raises you in degrees and decreases your sins because of it." [Reported by Muslim]

2. Fasting - This has been mentioned as one of the acts of righteousness where Hanbada ibn Khâlid reports on the authority of his wife who reports that some of the wives of the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

The Prophet, upon whom be peace, would fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, the day of Âshûra and three days in every month. [Recorded by Ahmad, Abu Dâwûd, an-Nisâî and others]

Al-Imâm an-Nawawî said that fasting in these ten days is extremely recommended.

3. Saying allahu akbar; lâ illaha illallah and alhamdulillâh - It is found in the aforementioned narration of Ibn 'Umar:

"So increase yourselves in saying lâ illaha illallah, allahu akbar and alhamdulillâh."

Al-Imâm Bukhârî, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

"Ibn 'Umar and Abû Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with them both, used to go out to the markets in the ten days saying the takbîr causing the people to follow them in this action."

He also said:

"Umar ibn al-Khattâb used to say the takbîr in his minaret in Mina, whereupon the people of the mosque hearing 'Umar, would start to say the takbîr as would the people in the markets until the whole of Mina was locked in glorifying Allah."

Ibn 'Umar used to say the takbîr in Mina during these ten days and after prayers, whilst on his bed, in his tent, in his gathering and whilst walking. What is recommended is to say the takbîr aloud due to the fact that 'Umar ibn al-Khattâb, his son and Abû Hurayrah used to do likewise, may Allah be pleased with them all.

Strive with us O Muslims in reviving this sunnah that has become lost in these times and it was almost forgotten, even amongst the people of righteousness and goodness all of which is unfortunately in opposition to what the best of generations were upon (preserving and maintaining the superogatory acts).

There are a number of ways of making takbîr that have been narrated by the companions and their followers and from these ways is the following:

- Allahu akbar, allahu akbar, allahu akbar kabîrun.

- Allahu akbar, allahu akbar, lâ ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wallahu akbar, wa lillahil hamd.

- Allahu akbar, allahu akbar, allahu akbar, lâ ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, allahu akbar wa lillâhil hamd.

4. Fasting on the day of 'Arafah - Fasting has been affirmed on the day of 'Arafah, where it has been confirmed from the Prophet, peace be upon him, that he said regarding fasting on the day of 'Arafah:

"Be content with the fact that Allah will expiate for you your sins for the year before (the day of 'Arafah) and the year after (the day of 'Arafah)." [Reported by Muslim]

However, whoever is at 'Arafah as a pilgrim then fasting is not expected of him, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, stopped at 'Arafah to eat.

May the peace of Allah be upon his Prophet, the family of the Prophet and all of his companions

Hadith Jibreel (2nd Hadith of AnNawawi Forty Ahadith)

Tonight (Sat Oct 22, 2011), Insha'Allah our Halaqa will be about Hadith Jibreel:

'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, there is that he said, "While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless with him and grant him peace, one day a man came up to us whose clothes were extremely white, whose hair was extremely black, upon whom traces of travelling could not be seen, and whom none of us knew, until he sat down close to the Prophet, may Allah bless with him and grant him peace, so that he rested his knees upon his knees and placed his two hands upon his thighs and said, 'Muhammad, tell me about Islam.' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless with him and grant him peace, said, 'Islam is that you witness that there is no true God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and you establish the prayer, and you give the Zakat, and you fast Ramadan, and you perform the hajj of the House if you are able to take a way to it.' He said, 'You have told the truth,' and we were amazed at him asking him and [then] telling him that he told the truth. He said, 'Tell me about iman.' He said, 'That you affirm Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day, and that you affirm the Decree, the good of it and the bad of it.' He said, 'You have told the truth.' He said, 'Tell me about ihsan.' He said, 'That you worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you don't see Him then truly He sees you.' He said, 'Tell me about the Hour.' He said, 'The one asked about it knows no more than the one asking.' He said, 'Then tell me about its tokens.' He said, 'That the female slave should give birth to her mistress, and you see poor, naked, barefoot shepherds of sheep and goats competing in making tall buildings.' He went away, and I remained some time. Then he asked, 'Umar, do you know who the questioner was?' I said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'He was Jibril who came to you to teach you your deen'." Muslim

Description of The Prophet's Hajj as Narrated by Jaabir Ibn Abdullah

Muslim reported: Mohammad ibn Ali ibn Hussein said to Jaabir ibn Abdullah: "Tell me about the Hajj of the Prophet (peace be upon him)." He held up his nine fingers and said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) stayed in Madinah for nine years but did not perform Hajj. Then, in the tenth year he made a public announcement to the effect that Allah's Messenger was about to perform the Hajj. A large number of people came to Madinah, and all of them were eager to emulate the Prophet (peace be upon him) and follow his actions.

"We set out with him until we reached Dhul-Hulaifah, where Asma bint 'Umais gave birth to Mohammad ibn Abi Bakr. She sent a message to the Prophet (peace be upon him) asking him: "What should I do?" He said, "Take a bath, bandage your private parts and put on ihram.

"The Prophet (peace be upon him) then prayed in the mosque and then mounted al-Qaswa (his she-camel) and it stood erect with him on its back at al-Baida. As far as I could see in front of me, behind me, on my right and on my left, I saw riders and pedestrians. The Messenger of Allah (peace be him) was prominent among us and the (revelation) of the Qur'an was descending upon him, and it is he who knows (its true) interpretation. Whatever he did, we also did.

He pronounced the Oneness of Allah (saying): Labbaika Allahumma labbaik labbaika la sharika laka labbaik, innal hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal mulk, la sharika lak (O Allah! I hasten to You. You have no partner. I hasten to You. All praise and grace is Thine and the Sovereignty too; You have no partner). And the people also pronounced this talbiyah which they pronounce today. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not disapprove of anything in it, but he adhered to his own talbiyah.

Jabir said: "We did not have any other intention but that of Hajj only, being unaware of the 'Umrah, but when we came with him to the House (of Allah), he touched the Black Stone (Hajar al Aswad) and made seven circuits, running three of them and walking four. Then going to the Station of Ibrahim, he recited: "And adopt the Station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer.'' (Qur'an 2.125) He stood at a place where the Station (of Ibrahim) was between him and the House. There he prayed two rak'ahs reciting Surah Al-lkhlas, and Surah Al-Kafirun. He then returned to the Black Stone (Hajar al A.sl~ad) and kissed it. Then he went out of the gate to Safa, and as he approached it he recited: "Al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the signs appointed by Allah," (Qur'an 2.15) (adding:) I begin with what Allah began.

He first mounted Safa until he saw the House, and facing Qiblah he declared the Oneness of Allah and glorified Him and said: La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulk wa lahul hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli sha'in qadeer, la ilaha illallahu wahdahu, anjaza wa'dahu, wa nasara 'abdahu, wa hazamal ahzaba wahdah (There is no God but Allah, One, He has no partner. His is the Sovereignty, to Him praise is due, and He is Powerful over everything. There is no God but Allah alone, Who fulfilled His promise, helped His servant and routed the confederates alone"). He said these words three times making supplications in between. He then descended and walked towards Marwah, and when his feet touched the bottom of the valley, he ran; and when he began to ascend, he walked till he reached Marwah. There he did as he had done at Safa.

"When it was his last round of Marwah he said: 'If I had known beforehand what I have come to know afterwards, I would not have brought sacrificial animals and would have offered it as an 'Umrah. So, he among you who has not the sacrificial animals with him should put off ihram and treat it as an 'Umrah'. Suraqa ibn Malik ibn Ju'tham got up and said, 'Messenger of Allah, does it apply to the present year, or does it apply forever? Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) intertwined the fingers (of one hand) into another and said twice: 'The 'Umrah has become incorporated in the Hajj,' (adding): 'No, but forever and ever.'

"Ali came from Yemen with the sacrificial animals for the Prophet (peace be upon him) and found Fatimah (Allah be pleased with her) to be one among those who had put off ihram. She put on dyed clothes, and had applied kuhl*. Ali showed disapproval of it, whereupon she said: 'My father has commanded me to do this.' (The narrator) said that Ali used to say in Iraq: 'I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) showing annoyance at Fatimah for what she had done, and asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding what she had narrated from him, and told him that he was angry with her, whereupon the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'She has told the truth; she has told the truth.' The Prophet then asked Ali: 'What did you say when you put on ihram?' I (Ali) said: 'O Allah, I am putting on ihram for the same purpose as Your Messenger has put it on.' Thereupon the Prophet (peace be upon him) told him, 'I have with me sacrificial animals, so do not put off the ihram.'

"(Jabir) said: 'The total number of those sacrificial animals brought by Ali from Yemen and of those brought by the Prophet (peace be upon him) was one hundred. All the people except the Prophet (peace be upon him) and those who had with them sacrificial animals, put off ihram and got their hair clipped.

When it was the day of Tarwiya (8th of Dhul-Hijjah) they went to Mina and put on the ihram for Hajj and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) rode and led there, the noon, afternoon, sunset, 'Isha and dawn prayers. He then waited a little till the sun rose, and commanded that a tent of hair should be pitched at Namira.

"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then set out and the Quraish did not doubt that he would stop at Al-Mash'ar Al-Haram (the sacred site) as the Quraish used to do in the pre-Islamic period. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), however, passed on till he came to 'Arafah and he found that the tent had been pitched for him at Namira. There he got down till the sun had passed the meridian; he commanded that al-Qaswa be brought and saddled for him. Then he came to the bottom of the valley, and addressed the people saying: Verily your blood and your property are as sacred as the sacredness of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this town of yours. Behold! Everything pertaining to the Days of Ignorance is under my feet, and completely abolished. Abolished are also the blood-revenges of the Days of Ignorance. The first claim of ours on blood-revenge which I abolish is that of the son of Rabi 'a ibn al-Harith, who was nursed among the tribe of Sa'd and killed by Hudhail. And the usury of the pre-Islamic period is abolished, and the first of our usury I abolish is that of 'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib, for it is all abolished. Fear Allah concerning women! Verily you have taken them on the security of Allah, and intercourse with them has been made lawful unto you by word of Allah. You too have rights over them, in that they should not allow anyone to sit on your bed whom you do not like. But if they do that, you can chastise them but not severely. Their rights upon you are that you should provide them with food and clothing in a fitting manner.I have left among you the Book of Allah, and if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray. And you will be asked about me (on the Day of Resurrection), (now tell me) what would you say? They (the audience) said: "We will bear witness that you have conveyed (the message), discharged (the ministry of Prophet-hood) and given wise (sincere) counsel." He (the narrator) said: "He (the Holy Prophet) then raised his forefinger towards the sky and pointing it at the people (said): 'O Allah, be witness. O Allah be witness,' saying it thrice.

"Then adhan was pronounced and later on iqama and the Prophet (peace be upon him) led the noon prayer. Then another Iqama was pronounced and the Prophet (peace be upon him) led the afternoon prayer and he observed no other prayer in between the two.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then mounted his camel and came to the place where he was to stay. He made his she-camel, al-Qaswa, turn towards the rocky side, with the pedestrian path Iying in front of him. He faced the Qiblah, and stood there until the sun set, and the yellow light diminished somewhat, and the disc of the sun totally disappeared. He made Usama sit behind him, and pulled the nose-string of Qaswa so forcefully that its head touched the saddle (in order to keep her under perfect control), and pointing out with his right hand, advised the people to be moderate (in speed) saying: "O people! calmness, calmness!" Whenever he passed over an elevated tract of land, he slightly loosened the nose-string of his camel till she climbed up. This is how he reached al-Muzdalifah."

"There he led the evening and 'Isha prayers with one adhan and two iqamas and did not glorify (Allah) in between them (i.e. he did not observe supererogatory rak 'ahs between Maghrib and 'Isha prayers). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then lay down til1 dawn and offered the dawn prayer with an adhan and iqama when the morning light was clear. He again mounted al-Qaswa, and when he came to Al-Mash'ar Al-Haram, he faced Qiblah, and supplicated to Allah, Glorified Him, and pronounced His Uniqueness and Oneness, and kept standing till the daylight was very clear.

"He then went quickly before the sun rose, and seated behind him was Al-Fadl ibn 'Abbas, who was a man with beautiful hair, fair complexion, and handsome face. As the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) moved on, a group of women riding camels was also passing. Al-Fadl began to look at them. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) placed his hand on Al-Fadl's face who then turned his face to the other side, and began to look, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) turned his hand to the other side and placed it on Al-Fadl's face. He again turned his face to the other side.

Till he came to the bottom of Muhassir. He urged her (al-Qaswa) a little, and, following the middle road, which comes out at the greatest Jamarah, he came to the Jamarah which is near the tree. At this he threw seven small pebbles, saying, 'Allahu Akbar' while throwing every one of them in a manner in which the small pebbles are thrown (holding them with fingers) and this he did while at the bottom of the valley. (That is, he stood there at a place where Mina, Arafah and Al-Muzdalifah were on his right, and Makkah on his left side). And in the following days he threw the pebbles after Zawal

"He then went to the place of sacrifice, and sacrificed sixty-three (camels) with his own hand. He shared the remaining camels with Ali, who sacrificed them. He then commanded that a piece of meat from each sacrificed animal be put in a pot. When it was cooked, both of them (the Prophet and Ali) ate some of it and drank its soup. Then he shaved his head. Then he sat to answer people's questions. And for whatever he was asked about something being done before or after he said "لا حرج لا حرج"

"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) again rode and came to the House (of Allah), where he performed Tawaf Al-Ifadah and oftered the Zuhr prayer at Makkah. He came to the tribe of 'Abd al-Muttalib, who were supplying water at Zamzam, and said: 'Draw water, O Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib; were it not that people would take over this right of supplying water from you, I would have drawn it along with you.' So they handed him a bucket and he drank from it."

Jabir Said that Aishah performed all hajj deeds except of Tawaf till she got pure from her period then she performed Tawaf. However, She was feeling sad that everyone retrn with hajj and Umrah and she only did hajj. Jabir said "and the prophet was an easy person, whatever she desires he used to do it for her" the prophet commanded her brother Abdulrahman ibn Abi Bakr to take her to AtTaneem to make Umrah. So, she made her Umrah.

Toastmasters! It's been long time no visit!

Last night, I had the opportunity to visit "The City of Arts" toastmasters club at Port Moody City. It's been long time! The event was lovely. In a toastmasters meeting, there is always something to learn or someone to learn from.

Toastmasters clubs provide a friendly and mutually supportive environment to learn and grow fostering leadership and communication skills; gradually and one skill at a time.

I do recommend it for everyone. If you're busy, make time for it. You will be glad of your decision. You may want to visit more than one club before you decide what club to join.

Friday's Sermon will be about The Prophet's Hajj description

Insha'Allah, tomorrow I will deliver the Friday's sermon at Richmond Masjid. The topic of the sermon will be about the description of the prophet's hajj as narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah. This long hanidth is reported in Sahih Mulsim and other hadith books. The narration is self-explanatory. The objective is to enlighten the congregation about this great act of worship and to be able to perform it the same way that Allah's Messenger performed it hoping to be accepted by Allah and draw us closer to him. For those who are not going for hajj this year like me, the sermon will be an opportunity to live up the event and immerse ourselves into its meanings. May Allah facilitate all our affairs and make it easy for those who are going for hajj to fulfill their duties and return safely to their families.

Provisions Keys (مفاتيح الرزق) - What are they?

I thought it would be of benefit to share with here in my blog the speech I delivered on Friday Sermon on Oct 7th at Richmond Masjid (in brief version) ... here it is! Hope you will find it enlightening!

All praise is due to Allah, whose help and forgiveness we seek. We seek refuge in Allah from whatever evil our hearts conceal and from the consequences of our evil deeds. Whoever Allah grants guidance will never be led astray. Whoever He allows to go astray will never find guidance. I bear witness that none is worthy of worship except Allah, who has no partners, and that Mohammad is His slave and Messenger.

During this Friday's sermon, we shall speak about an issue that concerns every one of us! Actually, you and I may come to the masjid to attend the khutbah or the prayer and our minds might be busy thinking about such issue! It is our need for provisions and sustenance (Rizq).

Brothers in Islam, Allah has given us keys to increase our wealth and attain our livelihood. So do you want to have a better life enjoying healthy provisions and rizq, let us together have a quick journey to learn these keys that we find in the book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger Sallal Allahu Alihi Wa Sallam!

To begin with, let's remember two essential concepts: First, Allah is the One who provides! He is The Provider! He is the Sustainer! Allah Azza Wajall Says:

"Verily, Allah is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, the Most Strong"

It is not the people! Not the company! Not the husband! Not the parent! etc … Those are means Allah made them for people through which Rizq comes to us. So, attach your heart with Allah and seek His Support and Guidance and ask of Him to provide for you! and always remember that Allah is The Provider! The second essential fact to keep in mind, that your rizq will surely come to you! Allah has written and decided your provisions! So, no need to worry or panic! Rest assured that you will get whatsoever Allah has willed and written for you! If all people plotted against you to prevent what Allah has written for you to come your way, they won't be able to do it and it surely comes to you! Allah's Messenger (Allah's Peace and Blessing be upon him) said that no one will die till he will get its full provision and life Ironically, we worry so much about sustenance in our life despite the fact it has been guaranteed for us! So, calm down and seek rizq through Islamically lawful ways

Brothers and Sisters in Islam, Allah willed means (أسباب) for everything to happen. And there are two kinds of means; materialistic (أسباب مادية) and religious means (أسباب دينية). We all know that to attain our rizq and earn our living, we need to work, we need to earn a degree, to get training and certifications, to act and so on. This is definitely needed and essential; whomever does what it takes to succeed in life whether a believer or a non believer he might attain wealth and high status. However, for the believing person there are more means for provisions; keys for attaining sustenance in abundance that we find in the book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet Mohammed Sallallahu Alihi Wassallam. Each one these keys is a whole subject in itself deserving a whole speech. In this sermon, we shall have a glance over them and Insha'Allah we shall speak about each and every key separately in the coming sermons By Allah's Leave.

The first of these keys is to attain Iman and Taqwa; truly have faith in Allah and obey Him in all your affairs hoping to attain His Jannah and Rewards and fearing His punishment and Hellfire. Allah azza Wajjal Says

(And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwa (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.)

And Allah Says

( And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty) * And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine)

So to have wealth and increase our sustenance we need first to fix our relationship with Allah Azza Wajjal. Do we really keep our duty with Allah? Do we pray the five daily prayers timely? Do we follow our religion in all our affairs? ... We need first and foremost to check on ourselves! For instance, if you pray three times a day (not five times) then how do expect your life to be!!! Ya Akhi, turn to Allah with repentance and Istighfaar (seeking forgiveness) so Allah will shower you with His Mercy and provide for you in ways beyond your imagination! And this is the second key to wealth and sustenance! Seeking Allah's Forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance.

When a man complained to Alhassan Albasri the drout, alhassan guided him to make Istighfaar, when another man complained to him that he does not have children, he adviced him to make Istighfaar, when a man complained to him poverty he advised him to make Istighfaar. Then Alhassan Albasri upon bing questioned about his responses he recited these wonderful Quraanic verses in Suraat Nooh:

"I said (to them): 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; * 'He will send rain to you in abundance; * 'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.' "

Another key to wealth and rizq that goes hand in hand with that is to have Tawakul (to rely on Allah Subhanahu Wataala). In brief, atTawakul (reliance on Allah) means that we do the materialistic means that Allah made them reasons for things to happen and as we do so we make sure that our hearts are in total reliance on Allah who decreed these means and who made them effective to realize what is intended. Have faith in the Lord! The Owner! The King! Who Has the Power over everything! ... let's contemplate over this prophetic narration that draw an animated picture for this simple but important issue.

'Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) had said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, "If you were to rely on Allah as He should be relied on, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds. They go out in the morning hungry and return in the evening full." Narrated by Tirmidhi

So visualize this picture with me … the bird is not resting idle waiting for its rizq to come by itself! The bird is doing and acting (not lazy or inactive) .. leaving early morning ... going out early in the morning (brothers get up early and pray Fajr) in a state of hunger searching for food and keeps up searching and working ... by end of the day, it returns home satisfied and full. On one hand, do what it takes to earn your living; act and work! On the other hand, have faith and reliance on your Lord – Al-Rabb Azza Wajjal … and Always remember that when you truly have reliance on Allah after you have exhausted all the means and did whatever you can do within your reach, Allah is Sufficient for you. Allah says

"And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him"

To increase your wealth and to live in abundance constantly, be grateful to Allah for all that He bestowed upon you; the money, the health, the car your drive, the wife and children, the house, the friends, etc Indeed, Allah has granted us a lot but are we not fully aware of these bounties; Are we truly thankful to Allah. Ikhawani, Allah Says in the Qura'an:

"And If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings)"

We need to adopt an attitude of gratitude; feel the bounties; attribute them to your Lord Azza wajjal; remember He is the Provider; Always utter the words of Alhamd and Ashokr; Use Allah's bounties in ways that are pleasing to him! Being grateful to Allah should show in your deeds and in your words! Allah Says

"Work you, O family of Dawud (David), with thanks!" But few of My slaves are grateful.

And one of these ways to show our gratitude to Allah is to be dutiful to our kinship. This is one of the great keys to wealth.

the Prophet (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said as reported by Anas (Radhiyallahu Anhu)"He who desires that he be granted more provisions and his life be prolonged should maintain good ties with his kinship"

Visit them, call them, support them emotionally and financially … when you give to your relatives, this giving will be both wetting of your bonds and Sadaqah

Brothers, adopt a giving attitude! Giving for the sake of Allah with sincerity and seeking Allah's reward will surely increase your wealth and bring more rizq to you. This is another key for your sustenance; especially when you give to support those who seek Islamic knowledge. And remember Allah's promise (Son of Adam! Spend and I shall spend on you) Narrated by Muslim

I beg of Allah Subhanahu Wataala to provide for us and to expand our sustenance.

Brothers in Islam, from among the keys to sustenance is to perform Hajj and Umara repeatedly. Allah's Messenger (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said

"Perform hajj and `umrah repeatedly, for they expel poverty and sins just as a bellows expels the scum of iron, gold and silver, and the righteous hajj has no reward other than Heaven.""[Narrated by Tirmidhi (who graded it hasan sahih), Ibn Khuzaymah and Ibn Hibban, as in Tahdhib al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib, p. 202]
